If a doctor has ordered a test they will ask you to ring the surgery for the result of that test. Test results are given out between 14:30 and 18:00. The amount of time from a test being done to the result reaching the surgery varies from test to test. Some examples are:
- Full Blood Count 3-4 days
- Routine Biochemistry 3-4 days
- Microbiology (swabs & urine tests) 1 week
- X-rays 1-2 weeks
Cervical smear results take 10-12 weeks to come back. You will be notified directly by the FHSA of your result. You do not need to ring the surgery for your smear result but if you have not received notification within 12 weeks of having your smear done please contact the surgery so we can chase it up.
If your test has been ordered by a hospital consultant, we may not get the result at the surgery. Hospital departments have procedures set up for following up tests that they request.
