Routine Pre-Bookable Appointments with the Doctor
You can see any doctor within the Practice. However, all patients will have a named doctor, who will manage your prescription requests, blood results etc. and who will have overall responsibility for your care. Wherever possible, we prefer you to see the same doctor for the same problem, so please do plan ahead as your preferred GP may not be immediately available. Pre-bookable consultations with the doctor are by appointment only and they can be made by telephone, online via the internet, or at the reception desk. These appointments are ten minutes long and are designed to manage one medical problem only. These should be used for chronic, long-term or ongoing problems.
If you cannot keep your appointment, please give us as much notice as you can so that we can offer it to another patient. Patients who fail to attend for two appointments in a six month period run the risk of being removed from the Practice list. To book an appointment online you will need to have registered for patient access. You need to request this access in person at the Practice.
Telephone Appointments with the Doctor
We also offer patients telephone consultations with the doctors. Please book this with the receptionists and the doctor will call you back. Please ensure you leave the correct phone number and you are available to answer your phone as the doctors are unable to make multiple attempts to call.
We do not offer on-the-day appointments. However, our Duty Team run a triage service for those patients requiring urgent appointments, staffed by a triage nurse and the duty doctor. A member of the team will call all patients first and offer an appointment if necessary. If you require an urgent appointment on the same day, please call the surgery at 08.15. It is vital, particularly for urgent appointments, that you are able to inform the receptionist why you might need an appointment. The clinical team are then able to prioritise requests and ensure that urgent or unwell patients are seen and assessed quickly and efficiently. If you are not able to let the reception team know about your concern, you may find that your call is prioritised with less urgency. Our staff have all signed confidentiality agreements and anything you say is strictly treated as such.
Appointments with a Nurse or Healthcare Assistant (HCA)
Appointments with a nurse or HCA are booked by the receptionists. The appointment length will vary depending on why you are seeing the nurse.
Home visits are intended for the housebound and those too ill to travel. If you are too ill to come to the surgery, please telephone before 10.00 am. The receptionist will ask for some details of the illness so that the doctor can assess the priority of the call, and the doctor will always phone prior to visiting. Please remember, we can see many patients in the Surgery in the time an average home visit takes. Please try to come to the Surgery whenever possible as we have better facilities for examination and treatment.
When the surgery is closed
We have an excellent local Out of Hours service in Basingstoke, run and staffed by our own local GPs. This is accessible out of hours by dialing 111. This is a free phone number. You may be offered advice, an opportunity to visit an emergency Surgery or a home visit, if necessary.
